Huskers Suffer Loss to No. 4 Ohio State

Columbus, Ohio - The Nebraska men's tennis team suffered a tough loss to No. 4 Ohio State, 4-0, on Sunday.

With the loss, Nebraska falls to 11-7 on the season and 2-3 in Big Ten Conference competiton, while the Buckeyes improved to 20-2 and 5-0 in the Big Ten.

The Huskers began competition with a rough start after losing the doubles point. Marc Herrmann and Scott Elsass took on Ralf Steinbach and Hunter Tubert at No. 2 where Steinbach and Tubert went 6-2 over the Husker duo. Andrew Dzulynsky and Ford Zitsch competed against Matt Mendez and Hugo Di Feo at No. 3 doubles, but fell to the Buckeye duo by a scored of 6-2. Dusty and Toby Boyer played Mikael Torpegaard and Martin Joyce but did not complete their match at No. 1 doubles, ending at 5-4. 

In singles competition, Dusty Boyer played a competitive match against Torpegaard, the second ranked player in the country before falling 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.

At No. 2 singles, Marc Herrmann played another ranked Buckeye, No. 26 Hugo Di Feo,  with Di Feo winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, to give OSU a 3-0 lead.

Wrapping up singles at No. 6, Scott Elsass saw some singles action against Martin Joyce before falling 6-4, 6-4 to secure the win for the Buckeyes.

"We got beat by a better team today and got exposed in a few areas that we need to work on," said Head Coach McDermott. "The fight was good and this loss will make us better."

Toby Boyer took on No. 65 Chris Diaz at No. 3, but ended their match at 4-6, 6-1 unfinished. Andrew Dzulynsky and Ralf Steinbach went 4-6, 5-4 in an uncompleted match at No. 4. Ford Zitsch and No. 70 Herkko Pollanen competed at No. 5 and also ended their match unfinished at 6-4, 5-5. 

Nebraska will return home to compete at the Dillon Tennis Center on Friday, April 8 at 4 p.m. against Northwestern.
