NU Men's Golf Wraps up Big Ten Championships

Juniors Justin Jennings and Mike Colgate each carded rounds of 76 on Sunday to lead Nebraska in the final round of the Big Ten Championships at Victoria National Golf Club in Newburgh, Ind.  The pair helped Nebraska to a 306 team total on Sunday, leaving the Huskers at 918 for three rounds.

The Huskers’ top individual finisher for the tournament was freshman Sean Song. The Omaha native completed three rounds of play with a 226 total, following a 77 on Sunday. Song struggled to a 43 on his first nine at the par-72, 7,242-yard layout, but rallied with an impressive 34 on his second nine, the front nine at Victoria National. Song’s 226 total earned him a tie for 39th place.

Jennings’ 76 on Sunday gave him a three-round total of 230, good for a tie for 52nd place in the championship, while Colgate finished one stroke higher at 231 and finished 54th. Jackson Wendling posted a 77 on Sunday and a 235 total, good for a tie for 60th place. Jace Guthmiller carded an 85 on Sunday and finished in 68th place at 242 strokes. Illinois’ Thomas Detry won the individual title after a 64 on Sunday and a 10-under par 206 total over three rounds.

Nebraska’s 918 total left the Huskers in 13th place for the tournament, three strokes ahead of Wisconsin. Illinois won the team title with an 838 total over three rounds, including a 24-under par 264 on Sunday, winning the team title by 13 strokes over Iowa. Maryland, Michigan and Michigan State rounded out the top five in the team standings.
