Stelzmiller Finishes in Top 25 at Big Ten Championships

Cassidy Stelzmiller closed with a 73 to produce her second career top-25 Big Ten Championships finish to lead the Nebraska women's golf team in Indianapolis on Sunday.

Stelzmiller, a fifth-year senior from Placerville, Calif., ended her career with a three-over-par 219 to tie for 25th in the 84-player field at the Big Ten Championships. Stelzmiller's 219 was a season-best and the second-best tournament score of her career, trailing only 216 as a sophomore at the Westbrook Spring Invitational. Stelzmiller tied for 18th with a 230 at the Big Ten Championships as a sophomore in 2014.

Stelzmiller's strong play helped the Huskers produce their best round of the tournament with a 293, finishing with a three-round total of 890. Nebraska finished in 13th place.

Northwestern and Ohio State shared the team title with identical three-round scores of 852. It marked the second straight season that the Wildcats and Buckeyes shared the Big Ten title and the third consecutive year that Ohio State shared the tournament crown.

Ohio State fired the best round of the tournament for the second straight day with a 280 on Sunday, following the 281 the Buckeyes carded on Saturday. Purdue finished third at 859.

The Boilermakers' August Kim stormed to medalist honors with a five-under 67 on the par-72, 6,221-yard layout at The Fort Golf Resort. Kim, who finished with a three-round total of 207, finished one shot ahead of Ohio State's Katja Pogacar, who also posted a 67 Sunday. It was Pogacar's second consecutive Big Ten runner-up finish.

Both Kim and Pogacar overcame Wisconsin's Brooke Ferrell, who opened the tournament with a 65, but was unable to hold onto the lead after carding rounds of 72 on both Saturday and Sunday to finish in third at 209.

Nebraska's Haley Thiele shot a 74 Sunday to finish with a three-round score of 222. The freshman from Wahoo, Neb., ended her first Big Ten Championship appearance in a tie for 39th at 222.

Senior Cassie Deeg added a final-round 74 to finish with a three-round score of 225 in a tie for 50th. Fellow senior Morgan Smejkal closed with Nebraska's best round of the day with a 72 to climb into a tie for 54th at 226.

Sarah Pravecek (75-79-79-233) and Audrey Judd (81-77-80-238) rounded out the Nebraska contingent.
