East Lansing, Mich. - The Nebraska men's tennis team captured a victory over the Michigan State Spartans where the Huskers went 4-2.
The Huskers improve their season record at 13-11 and 4-6 in Big Ten play.
Brother duo of Dusty and Toby Boyer took on the Spartans' Mac Roy and Jasper Koenen where the Michigan State team went 6-0 over the Boyers at No. 1. Marc Herrmann and Scott Elsass competed against Colin Harvey and Michael Dube where the teams had a tight competition, finishing at 7-6 (4) in the Husker's favor. Wrapping up doubles at No. 3, Andrew Dzulynsky and Ford Zitsch overthrew Billy Shisler and Alexander Kim 6-3 to secure the doulbes point advnatage.
In singles play, Dusty Boyer competed against Roy where he went 3-6, 7-6 (1), 6-4 over Roy at No. 1.
Herrmann and Dube competed at the No. 2 position where Herrmann fell in a close 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 final mark. Toby Boyer also had a rough loss at No. 3 against Koenen where Koenen went 6-3, 6-4.
At No. 5, Tomislav Antoljak defeated Ivan Rakic in two tight sets of 7-5, 7-6 (5).
Zitsch also grabbed a vicotry for the Huskers at No. 6 where he went 6-3, 6-2 over his opponent Shisler.
"It was a great team win," said Head Coach McDermott. "In doubles we came back from being down a break late at No. 2 doubles but came back to steal the victory. The Bottom of the line pulled through in singles as well as Dusty coming back from being down a set and down in the second set. We are looking forward to playing Michigan on Sunday."
The Huskers take on No. 22 Michigan on Sunday, Apr. 24 at 10 a.m. in Ann Arbor, Mich.
