Huskers Knock Off No. 59 Purdue on Senior Day

Lincoln - Dusty and Toby Boyer each produced a pair of wins, as the Nebraska men's tennis team grabbed four singles victories to claim a 4-2 Senior Day win over No. 59 Purdue Sunday at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.

With the victory, Nebraska improved to 12-11 for the season and 3-6 in Big Ten play, while Purdue slipped to 14-9 overall and 3-6 in the conference.

Dusty and Toby Boyer opened the dual strong with a swift 6-1 doubles victory over Purdue's Benjamin Ugarte and Dominik Sochurek.

However, the Boilermakes put themselves in position to win the doubles point behind a 6-4 win from Gergely Madarasz and Ricky Medinilla over Nebraska's Marc Herrmann and Scott Elsass at No. 2

Purdue earned the point with a 6-3 victory from Mateus Silva and Renan Hanayamaover Ford Zitsch and Andrew Dzulynsky at No. 3 doubles. 

Dusty Boyer evened the team score as the No. 122 singles player in the country slammed his way to a 6-4, 6-2 win over No. 42 Madarasz.

Purdue reclaimed the team lead with Silva's 6-3, 6-2 win over Zitsch at No. 5 singles, before Toby Boyer tied the score again with his 7-6 (2), 6-3 win over Sochurek at the No. 4 singles spot.

Dzulynsky gave Nebraska its first lead with his hard-fought 7-6 (2), 6-4 victory over Medinilla at No. 3.

Freshman Tomislav Antoljak then gave the Big Red three straight first-set tiebreaker wins with his 7-6 (1), 6-2 victory at No. 6 over Hanayama to secure the team win for the Huskers.

With the team victory in hand, Herrmann's No. 2 singles match with Ugarte was not completed, but Herrmann was just one point from victory, with the score sitting at 7-6 (3), 3-6 and 5-2. 

The Huskers hit the road to take on Michigan State in East Lansing at on Friday, April 22 at 3 p.m., followed by a match against No. 21 Michigan on Sunday, April 24 at 10 a.m. in Ann Arbor.
