Lincoln - The Nebraska men's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 15 Illinois on Sunday at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.
The Huskers slipped to 11-9 overall and 2-5 in the Big Ten.
The Huskers got off to a strong start in doubles action, snatching the point with a pair of victories. At No. 1, Dusty and Toby Boyer powered their way to a 6-3 victory over Jared Hiltzik and Pengxuan Jiang.
The Fighting Illini responded with a 6-2 win for Brian Page and Julian Childers over Huskers Andrew Dzulynsky and Ford Zitsch at the No. 3 spot.
Marc Herrmann and Scott Elsass secured the point with an exciting 7-6 (8-6) victory in a back-and-forth match against Illinois' Aleks Vukic and Aron Hiltzik.
Illinois evened the team at 1-1, as No. 4 Vukic worked his way to a 6-4, 6-4 win over Nebraska's Herrmann at No. 2 singles.
The Illini made it 2-1 with No. 57 Aron Hiltzik's 6-4, 6-2 victory over Toby Boyer at No. 3 singles. Illinois increased its edge to 3-1 with Asher Hirsch's 6-4, 6-4 win over Nebraska's Tomislav Antoljak at No. 5 singles.
Page gave Illinois the win with a 7-6, 6-3 victory over NU's Zitsch at No. 6 singles.
The other matches were not completed, but Nebraska's No. 122 Dusty Boyer was in position to win over the Illini's No. 11 Jared Hiltzik. After dropping the first set 6-2, Boyer rallied for a 6-3 win in the second set, before battling to a 5-3 lead in the third set when the match was called.
The Huskers return to the Dillon Tennis Center on Wednesday, April 13 to compete against Drake at 4 p.m.
