Lincoln – University of Nebraska signee Jeriah Horne was honored Thursday night, as he was named the co-winner of the 2016 DiRenna Award, given to the top player in the Kansas City Area.
Horne, a senior at Barstow High School who signed with the Huskers in November, averaged 22 points, nine rebounds and three assists per game this past season in helping the school to a 27-4 record and a runner-up finish in Class 3 in Missouri this season. Horne, a 6-foot-7 forward, had 39 points and 14 rebounds in a 62-60 loss to Father Tolton Regional Catholic in the state title game.
Horne, who scored over 2,200 points in his career at Barstow, led the school to an 82-9 mark over the last three seasons, as the program made three straight state finals appearances. Horne was also a finalist for Mr. Basketball in the state of Missouri as a senior.
Horne is the second Husker recruit in the last five years to win the DiRenna Award, which has been handed out since 1954. Benny Parker won the award in 2012. Horne was a first-team all-state selection by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association, and will play in the Kansas vs. Missouri High School All-Star Challenge tonight.
