Scottsdale, Ariz. - The Nebraska men’s golf team finished tied for ninth at the Michigan Desert Mountain Intercollegiate after shooting 296 in the final round.
The Huskers completed the 54-hole tournament with a season-low 886 total at The Desert Mountain Club’s Outlaw Course, a par-72, 7,107-yard layout. On Saturday, NU opened with a season-low 290 before a second-round 300. Texas A&M captured the crown after carding 847 strokes over three rounds.
Jackson Wendling led the Huskers, notching a tie for 21st. The freshman posted a one-over-par 73 in the final round. Wendling carded a personal best 69 before a 75 on Saturday for a three-round total of 217.
Justin Jennings also fired a 73 on Sunday. The junior posted a pair of 73s on Saturday for a three-round total of 219 and finished tied for 27th. Jennings finished one stroke ahead of Mike Colgate. Mike Colgate tied for 29th place after carding a 77 in the final round. The junior posted 72 and 71 on Saturday.
Jace Guthmiller had his best round of the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate on Sunday, firing a one-over par 73. The freshman carded 82 and 81 on Saturday en route to a tie for 61st place at 236 strokes.
Freshman Sean Song finished in 64th place with a 240 total. Song posted a final-round 83 on Sunday after a 76 and 81 in the first two rounds.
The Huskers return to action March 18-19, at the Desert Shootout in Goodyear, Ariz.
