Huskers Finish Beach Season in Malibu

MALIBU, Calif. - The Nebraska beach volleyball team concluded its 2016 season with a split against Cal Poly and No. 1 Pepperdine on Friday at Zuma Beach.

The Huskers swept Cal Poly, 5-0, in the first match of the day before falling No. 1 Pepperdine, 5-0, in the final match of the season. Nebraska returns home with a 5-5 overall record.

Against Cal Poly, the Huskers' No. 3 pair, Annika Albrecht and Olivia Boender, finished off a 21-6, 21-15 win to give the Huskers a 1-0 lead. Briana Holman and Kenzie Maloney wrapped up a 21-15, 21-12 win at No. 4, and Brooke Smith and Tiani Reeves won their No. 5 match, 22-20, 21-6, to clinch the win for the Huskers. 

Amber Rolfzen and Justine Wong-Orantes won 21-18, 21-6 in the No. 2 spot, and Kadie Rolfzen and Kelly Hunter rallied for a 19-21, 21-15, 15-9 win to complete the sweep over the Mustangs (2-6). 

Against Pepperdine (11-0), Albrecht and Boender were the only Huskers to force a third set, as they fell 19-21, 21-18, 9-15 to Skylar Caputo and Corinne Quiggle.
