Huskers Topple Titans, 4-3

Fullerton, Calif. – The Nebraska women’s tennis team improved to 15-2 on the season after earning a 4-3 victory over Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday.

Doubles action kicked off the evening on the Titans' tennis courts, where strong finishes  put the Big Red ahead in the match 1-0.  The doubles duo Mary Hanna and Vasanti Shinde claimed a hard-fought 7-5 win over Karla Portalatin and Masako Makiba at the No. 2 doubles spot. This marked the fourteenth straight win for the pair this spring.

Katerina Matysoa and her partner Mackenna Maddox-Herr both snagged two wins each against their Titan rivals. The pair first worked together in doubles action to pull a 6-3 set over Sarah Nuno and Danielle Pham at the No. 3 spot.

Matysova battled Fullerton’s Masako Makiba to take home a 6-1, 2-6, 7-6(1) win for the Big Red at No. 4 singles to clinch the win for the Huskers.The sophomore form Erding, Germany, improved to 9-4 in singles. Maddox-Herr defeated Danielle Pham 7-6, 6-3 to snatch a team point at No. 5 singles.

A talented freshman from the Husker lineup, Sydney Harlow notched a win to help the Big Red return to Lincoln with the victory. Harlow blasted through a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Caroleen Faiarji of Cal State Fullteron at No. 6 singles to move to 5-2 in her inaugural season.

The Nebraska women’s tennis team returns home for a pair of Big Ten matches this weekend, as the Huskers take on Minnesota and Wisconsin over the weekend. Admission to both matches is free.
