Huskers Claim Fifth Straight Win

Lincoln - The Nebraska men's tennis team captured its fifth consecutive victory and second straight 7-0 sweep of the day with a win over Southwest Baptist at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center on Saturday night.

Nebraska, which improved to 10-4 on the season with its fifth straight victory, won every set in singles and doubles action on Saturday against the Bearcats.

The Huskers swept their way to the doubles points, beginning with a 6-0 win from Ford Zitsch and Andrew Dzulynsky over Raul Cabelero and Omar Diab at the No. 3 position.

No. 66 Dusty and Toby Boyer added a solid 6-3 win over Sherif Abohabaga and Gyorgy Argoston at the No. 1 position to secure the point.

Marc Herrmann and Scott Elsass completed the clean sweep of doubles action by defeating Chris Blodig and Torben Semrau, 6-2.

In singles competition, Zitsch cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Marcel Castillo at the No. 6, before senior Dusty Boyer notched a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Abohabaga at the No. 1 position.

Herrmann clinched the team victory for the Big Red with his 6-3, 6-1 win over Argoston at No. 2 singles to give Nebraska a 4-0 lead.

The Big Red kept rolling with freshman Toby Boyer's 6-1, 7-5 victory over the Bearcats' Blodig at No. 3 singles.

Freshman Tomislav Antoljak battled his way to a 6-3, 6-4 straight-set win over Semrau at the No. 4 spot, before Dzulynsky completed the sweep with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) victory over Cabalero at the No. 5 singles position.

"I thought we did a good job especially in doubles," Nebraska Coach Kerry McDermott said. "We started off really well, probably the best doubles we have played all year. That just kind of rolled over into the singles, and we did a really great job again of getting some good first sets and then just kind of smacked them in the mouth and went from there. It was a good match for us overall especially since it was the second match of the day. I thought our guys might actually be a little tired, but we actually played better I think in this second match than the first."

"Going in to next weekend with Minnesota and Wisconsin, we are doing the right things, we just have to have another good week of practice and hopefully make some things happen."

Nebraska travels to Minneapolis to meet Minnesota on Friday, March 25 at 6 p.m., before returning home to the Dillon Tennis Center to clash with Wisconsin on Sunday, March 27 at 10 a.m.
