Game Notes

Nebraska used its 24th different starting lineup (P, C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, LF, CF, RF, DP) and 24th different batting order in 24 games this season...the Huskers fell behind for the 10th time in 11 games...the Huskers left the bases loaded in the second, third and fourth strikeouts and stranded 11 runners through the first four innings...Nebraska had stranded 13 runners through five innings, the most runners the Huskers have left on base through 24 games this season...in the game, Nebraska stranded 16...NU also tied a season-high with three errors.

Fullerton, Calif. - Execution was lacking for the 23rd-ranked Nebraska softball team on Saturday, as the Huskers committed a season-high three errors and stranded a season-high 16 base runners in a 6-3 loss to New Mexico.

Offensively, the Huskers scored only three runs despite recording nine hits, drawing seven walks and being hit by three pitches. Nebraska, which left the bases loaded four times in the game, was 3-for-17 with runners in scoring position. NU also failed to score a runner from third base and less than two outs on five occasions.

Defensively, the Huskers committed three errors. Sophomore Kaylan Jablonski (2-3) took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) in 4.1 innings. Junior Cassie McClure tossed the final 1.2 innings, allowing one unearned run.

Offensively, sophomores Kaylan Jablonski, Madi Unzicker and Laura Barrow each had two hits, while Jablonski hit her third home run of the season.

Nebraska (17-7) will look to bounce back with a better effort in Saturday's second game against Arkansas.

The offensive frustration started early. Nebraska had a pair of one-out base runners in the top of the first inning but failed to score. New Mexico then plated one run in the bottom of the frame. The inning started with a leadoff walk before a sacrifice bunt and consecutive singles gave the Lobos a 1-0 lead.

The Huskers tied the game in the top of the second but also missed a chance for a bigger inning. Freshman Alyvia Simmons doubled with one out before Unzicker singled. Barrow then lined an RBI double to the gap in left center to tie the game at 1-1. The Huskers still had runners at second and third with only one out and the bases loaded with two outs but failed to add any additional runs.

Nebraska grabbed a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning but again left the bases loaded. McClure drew a leadoff walk before Jablonski doubled. Senior Dawna Tyson then scored sophomore pinch runner Gina Metzler with an RBI single to left. With one out, Unzicker drew a walk to load the bases, but Nebraska failed to add to its lead.

In the bottom of the frame, New Mexico tied the game 2-2 on a two-out wild pitch.

The Huskers then left the bases loaded for a third consecutive inning in the top of the fourth inning. In the fifth, Nebraska had runners on second and third with one out but could not score.

New Mexico took a commanding 6-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth, aided by a pair of Husker errors.

Jablonski got a run back with a solo home run in the sixth to cut the lead to 6-3.

In a fitting ending, the Huskers loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh but failed to score, as a pop out, a strikeout and a fly out wrapped up a safe for Krissy Fortner.

Nebraska wraps up Saturday play with a second game against Arkansas.
