Goodyear, AZ. - The Nebraska men’s golf team fired a season-low 279 in the final round of the Desert Shootout on Saturday en route to a 12th place finish at 855 strokes. NU carded a pair of 288s on Friday.
Mike Colgate led the Big Red on Saturday, firing a career low 6-under par 66. The junior opened Friday with a 73 before a second round 71 at the Palm Valley Club’s par-72, 7,015-yard layout to finish tied for 18th at 210 strokes.
Justin Jennings finished tied for 36th place at 213 strokes. The junior tied his career-low of 69 strokes in the final round on Saturday after a pair of 72s on Friday.
Sean Song carded a final round 74 after a 73 and 69 on Friday. The freshman closed the Desert Shootout tied for 53rd at 216 strokes. Song finished one stroke ahead of Jackson Wendling. Wendling posted 71 on Saturday to finish tied for 57th.
Jace Guthmiller also carded a 71 on Saturday. Guthmiller, playing as an individual, fired a pair of 74s on Friday en route to a tie for 67th place at 219 strokes.
Senior Aaron Wong finished in 111th place. Wong fired a season-low 73 on Saturday after a 78 and 81 on Friday.
The Huskers will continue their spring campaign on April 4-5, when they travel to University Place, Washington for the Seattle U Redhawk Invitational presented by OGIO at Chambers Bay Golf Club.
