Lincoln - Alicia Armstrong and Kiki Stokes each tied school records to highlight an impressive offensive showing for the 23rd-ranked Nebraska softball team in a 12-8 victory over in-state rival Omaha Wednesday night at Bowlin Stadium.

Armstrong tied the Nebraska record with eight RBIs, while Stokes tied the school record with four runs scored. Armstrong finished 3-for-4 with a walk and produced RBIs with a second-inning grand slam, a third-inning bases-loaded walk, a fifth-inning RBI single and a sixth-inning two-run single. She hit her first career grand slam in the game and joined two-time All-American Taylor Edwards as the only Huskers to produce eight RBIs in a game.

Stokes scored runs in four of her five trips to the plate, marking the 14th time in program history a Husker has scored four times in a single game. Stokes finished 2-for-2 with a triple and a pair of walks, and she also added a sacrifice fly.

Nebraska tied its season high with 12 runs, plating 12 runs for the second consecutive game. The Huskers tallied 13 hits, including one double, one triple and two home runs, while drawing nine walks. Junior MJ Knighten hit her 13th home run of the season and finished 3j-for-4 with a pair of runs and two RBIs.

Nebraska jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead when Stokes led off the bottom of the first inning with a triple before Knighten blasted a two-run homer.

UNO loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the second on a double, an error and a walk. Husker starter Kaylan Jablonski then struck out the next two hitters before another walked force in a run to cut the lead to 2-1.

The Huskers answered back with five runs in the bottom of the frame. Senior Mattie Fowler led off with a single before classmate Dawna Tyson walked and sophomore Madi Unzicker singled to load the bases. Stokes then scored Fowler with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1. A walk to Knighten loaded the bases again before Armstrong cleared the bases with a towering grand slam to right field to push the Husker lead to 7-1.

The offense continued in the top of the third when a single, an error and a walked loaded the bases for UNO with no outs for the second straight inning. Kourtney Pock then hit a fly ball to deep right center that a strong wind helped carry over the fence for a grand slam that cut the lead to 7-5.

Nebraska plated two more runs in the bottom of the third to make it 9-5. Unzicker walked to begin the frame before Stokes and Knighten singled to load the bases. Armstrong then drew a bases loaded walk to force in a run before Jablonski blooped an RBI single to put the Huskers up four. Nebraska had a chance for more with the bases still loaded and only one out but was unable to add to its lead.

The missed chance allowed UNO to cut into the lead with two runs in the top of the fourth. A hit batter, a wild pitch and an infield single gave the Mavericks runners at first and third with no outs in the top of the fourth. Lockman then coaxed a ground ball to short, and Armstrong decided to throw home and the ball appeared to beat the runner, but the home plate umpire ruled the runner avoided the tag. A double then plated the second run of the game as UNO pulled to within 9-7.

After being held scoreless in the fourth, Nebraska plated a single run in the fifth on an RBI single from Armstrong. The Huskers then tacked on two more runs in the sixth on a two-run single from Armstrong.

UNO threatened in its final at bat, cutting the lead to 12-8 and loading the bases before junior Cassie McClure wrapped up her fourth save of the season. McClure saved the victory for senior Emily Lockman, who earned the win in relief. Lockman (6-2) allowed three runs in 4.1 innings.

Nebraska improved to 16-6 with the win, while Omaha fell to 11-16. Laura Roecker (6-7) took the loss for the Mavs.

Nebraska leaves tomorrow for a nine-game, 11-day road trip that begins with five games over the weekend at the Easton Tournament in Fullerton, Calif.
