Mesa, Ariz. - Cassie Deeg shot a one-over-par 73 to close in a tie for 20th individually while leading the Nebraska women's golf team to an eighth-place finish at the 17-team Clover Cup on Sunday.
Deeg, a senior from Hugo, Minn., was Nebraska's top finisher at the three-day event, posting a 54-hole score of 223. She helped the Huskers close with a final-round 299 to jump from 11th to eighth place on the tournament's final day. The Big Red finished with a three-round score of 909 (301-309-299).
SMU fired a tournament-best score of 281 on Sunday to capture the team title with a three-round total of 858 on the par-72, 6,184-yard layout of the Longbow Golf Club. TCU finished second with an 866, including a final-round 290. Oklahoma took third at 873, while the hosts from Notre Dame finished fourth at 874.
TCU's Brooke Graebe earned medalist honors with a six-under-par 210, including a 71 on Sunday. Oklahoma's Rylee Pedigo finished as the runner-up just one stroke back at 211.
Nebraska senior Cassidy Stelzmiller helped the Huskers with her best round of the tournament on Sunday. Her two-over-par 74 helped her finish in a tie for 32nd at 226.
Husker freshman Haley Thiele rebounded from a rough round on Saturday to fire a 75 in the third round. She finished in a tie for 49th at 229 with fellow Husker Audrey Judd. The Husker sophomore added a 77 on Sunday to round out NU's team score.
Senior Morgan Smejkal rounded out the Big Red lineup with her second straight 81 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 68th at 237.
Sarah Pravecek (78-78-80-236) and Emily Gillman (77-78-81-236) tied for 65th while playing as individuals outside the Nebraska lineup.
The Huskers return to action at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii, March 22-23.
