Nebraska fell to 2-4 vs. ranked teams this season, including 2-3 against top-10 opponents...the Huskers lost back-to-back games for the first time this year...Nebraska committed a season-high three errors and allowed a season-high three unearned runs. |
Tempe, Ariz. - The 23rd-ranked Nebraska softball team committed a season-high three errors and the Huskers were shut out for a second straight game in a 7-0 loss to No. 9 James Madison on Saturday at Farrington Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.
The Huskers held James Madison to only four hits, but the Dukes scored seven runs off those four hits, as Nebraska allowed a season-high three unearned runs. Offensively, Nebraska had only two singles and just four total base runners against two-time All-American Jailyn Ford.
Ford (9-1) avenged her Friday loss to the Huskers by tossing a one-hit shutout on Saturday. Ford added six strikeouts to help James Madison improve to 20-2 on the year.
Senior right-hander Emily Lockman (4-2) suffered her second straight loss for Nebraska, both to ranked opponents. Lockman allowed only four runs (two earned) on only two hits in 4.0 innings of work. Sophomore right-hander Kaylan Jablonski relieved Lockman and surrendered three runs (two earned) on two hits in 2.0 innings, striking out four.
James Madison took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double from Megan Good.
The Dukes doubled their lead to 2-0 with a solo home run in the bottom of the second.
James Madison scored two more times in the bottom of the fourth despite not recording a hit. A walk and a three-base throwing error plated the first run before a sacrifice fly stretched the Dukes' lead to 4-0.
A pair of walks, another Husker error and an infield single helped James Madison score three times in the bottom of the fifth on only two hits.
The 7-0 lead was more than enough for Ford, who worked around a leadoff error in the top of the seventh and an Alicia Armstrong single in the seventh. Dawna Tyson had Nebraska's other hit.
Nebraska plays a second game Saturday against Ohio State.
