Huskers Defeat No. 47 Iowa Hawkeyes

Iowa City, Iowa - The Nebraska men's tennis team took on the No. 47 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes where they Huskers defeated Iowa 4-3. 

In doubles competition, Iowa claimed the point. At. No. 1, No. 66 brother duo Dusty and Toby Boyer took a loss to No. 78 Jake Jacoby and Lefteris Theodorou 6-4. Andrew Dzulynksy and Ford Zitsch competed against Dominic Patrick and Josh Silverstein where they fell in a close 6-4 finish. Wrapping up doubles at No. 3, Marc Herrmann and Scott Elsass didn't finish their match up agianst Nils Hallestrand and Robin Haden and finished at a very close 6-5.  

In singles competition, the Huskers started off strong at No. 2 where Marc Herrmann took on Lefteris Theodorou going 6-2, 6-1 to take the win. Following at No. 1, Dusty Boyer defeated Dominic Patrick 6-1, 7-5.

Jonas Larsen of Iowa defeated Nebraska's Tomislav Antoljak 7-5, 7-5 in two tight sets. At the No. 3 position Toby Boyer took on the competitive Josh Silverstein of Iowa, where Silverstein took the point 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

At No. 6, Ford Zitsch came with the win against Jake Jacoy going 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in another tight mark. Wrapping up singles competition, at No. 5 where Andrew Dzulnysnky went 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 to secure the win for the Nebrasksa squad. 

"Solid win for our team especially after losing a very tight doubles point," said Head Coach McDermott. "Our guys have been struggling against ranked teams this year especially when we let the Denver and Wichita State matches slip away but today our guys stepped it up and decided to be a bit braver in tight situations and it produced a big win for us. This was a great college match and a great way to start the Big Ten Conference with a win tonight over No. 47 Iowa at their home court. We as coaches feel that our team is starting to hit their stride and will hopefully continue as a team to push hard and keep working hard."

The Huskers will return home to compete against Lamar on Tuesday, March 11 at 6 p.m. at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.
