Lincoln- Husker Freshman Vasanti Shinde earned the Big Ten Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honor for the first weekly award of her career. The last Nebraska women’s tennis athlete to receive this honor was Mary Weatherholt in 2013.
Shinde and her doubles partner Mary Hanna currently post an 11-0 doubles record for the season, including recent wins against conference opponents Iowa and No.52 Purdue. The talented native of Pune, India, also holds the most singles wins for the Huskers (11-3).
The Big Red continues conference play with a morning match against Rutgers at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 12. Nebraska will also face the University of Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday, with the match scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.. Admission to both home matches is free.
