Junior Mary Hanna is a native of Saline, Michigan, who has spent her time with the Huskers dominating the tennis court.
Hanna is an advertising and public relations major and earned academic All-Big Ten honors in 2015. She is also a three-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll.
Mary took a break from her busy student-athlete schedule to answer some questions so we could know a little more about her.
Q: When did you start playing tennis? What made you want to play?
A: “I have been playing since I was 6. My parents just kind of stuck me in it!”
Q: Who has been one person that has helped out through your tennis career and how have they helped you?
A: “My dad. He is my biggest supporter in tennis and in life.”
Q: What is the best thing about Nebraska?
A: “Everybody is so nice and polite here. It is very different than Ann Arbor.”
Q: What is your favorite team tradition and why?
A: “We have a costume contest every Halloween!”
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
A: “I would like to be able to control things and people with my mind so I could rule the world.”
Q: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
A: “Ann Arbor, Michigan. It’s my hometown and favorite place to be!”
Q: What is your biggest fear?
A: “I have an irrational fear of milk. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it is a real thing called Lactaphobia!”
Q: If you could meet any one person (from history or currently alive), who would it be and why?
A: “Maria Sharapova. She is my idol.”
Q: Who is your celebrity crush?
A: “Liam Hemsworth.”
Q: One item on your bucket list?
A: “Skydiving! I love heights.”
