No. 69 Huskers Enter Conference Play

Lincoln- The No. 69 Nebraska women’s tennis team begins Big Ten Conference play on Wednesday at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center, when the Huskers host the Iowa Hawkeyes at 3 p.m.

Iowa visits the Big Red posting an 8-2 record after sweeping both Northern Iowa and Bradley last weekend. The Hawkeyes lead the all-time series with Nebraska, 16-8. Admission into Wednesday's match is free.

Leading the Huskers (11-1) is freshman Vasanti Shinde, who owns a 9-3 record and leads Nebraska in singles victories. Shinde also plays a key role in doubles, where she has teamed with junior Mary Hanna for a 9-0 record this season.

Wednesday's match with Iowa marks the end of Nebraska's season-opening 13-match homestand. The Huskers hit the road for the first time this weekend when they face No. 52 Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind., on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The Boilermakers hold a 3-2 series edge over the Huskers.

Purdue is 7-6 this season following consecutive losses to No. 37 Tulsa and No.32 Notre Dame. Saturday's match marks the Big Ten opener for the Boilermakers.
