Huskers Come Up Short Against No. 3 Wolfpack

Lincoln, Neb. – No. 11 Nebraska (10-5, 4-4 Big Ten) won five matches against No. 3 NC State (21-0), but bonus points proved to the difference in a 19-15 Wolfpack triumph at the Devaney Center on Saturday night.

The Huskers raced out to a 6-0 lead after two matches as No. 10 TJ Dudley (184) and No. 14 Aaron Studebaker (197) each notched decisions. Dudley knocked off 18th-ranked Pete Renda, 11-6, before Studebaker defeated No. 15 Michael Boykin by a 4-3 margin. Trailing 3-2 in the third period, Studebaker took down Renda with less than a second left to secure the victory.

No. 13 Eric Montoya (133), No. 5 Jake Sueflohn (149) and No. 17 Micah Barnes (174) also captured victories for the Huskers. Montoya defeated Jamal Morris, 7-2, to tie the team score 9-9 at the halfway point.

Sueflohn won a 7-2 decision over Beau Donahue to tie the dual 12-12 after seven matches. In the final bout of the night, No. 17 Micah Barnes won a 7-1 decision over Nicky Hall.

In the third match of the dual, No. 18 Collin Jensen (HWT) suffered an injury after 58 seconds against top-ranked Nick Gwiazdowski. No. 9 Tim Lambert (125) lost a 5-4 decision to Sean Fausz in the subsequent match.

NU lost to top-five opponents at 141, 157 and 165 pounds. No. 19 Anthony Abidin (141) fell to No. 3 Kevin Jack, 6-1. No. 19 Tyler Berger (157) lost to No. 5 Tommy Gantt, 11-3. No. 14 Austin Wilson (165) lost to No. 4 Max Rohskopf, 4-1.

The Huskers continue their home stand on Friday when they host Northwestern at the Devaney Center as part of Tumble N Rumble at 8 p.m. (CT). The dual will be televised live on the Big Ten Network.
