Huskers Place Sixth at Conference Championship

Oxford, Miss. — The Nebraska rifle team placed sixth at the Great America Rifle Conference Championships on Feb. 26-28, finishing with a team score of 4,638. 

The Huskers were in fifth place after smallbore, firing a score of 2,300. Denise Martin and Nina Radulovic led the team in the first discipline, tallying scores of 581 and 578, respectively. Rachel Martin pitched in a 574, while Magdalena Mical scored 567. Alexandrea Lorentz added a 564. 

In air rifle, the juniors paved the way for Nebraska. Jaycee Carter notched a 587, while R. Martin earned a 586. Radulovic followed closely behind with a 584.  Mical tallied a 581 and Lorentz ended with 577. NU finished with a team air rifle score of 2,338. 

Nebraska didn’t have any shooters advance to the individual finals, although D. Martin placed seventh in the combined scores with a 1,169. 

West Virginia claimed its seventh consecutive GARC Championship title earning a team score of 4,702. Kentucky placed second, while NC State took third.

The Huskers will spend the next two weeks preparing for the 2016 NCAA Championship on March 11-12 in Akron, Ohio. NU was one of eight teams to qualify for the NCAA Championship and look to improve on its fourth-place finish at the 2015 NCAA Championship.
