Colgate, Wendling Dazzle on Final Day

Palm Desert, Calif. - The Nebraska men’s golf team concluded the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Sunday, finishing in 18th place at 909 strokes. NU fired a final round 299, their best round of the weekend.

Mike Colgate led NU on Sunday by carding a one-over-par 73 to hand him a 25th place finish. Colgate posted 75 and 73 in the first two rounds to give him a 221-stroke total. The junior also carded the second most pars of the entire playing field with 40 over 54 holes.

Justin Jennings finished tied for 59th after carding a 77 on Sunday, giving him a three-round total of 226. Jennings shot a 77 on Friday before firing a 72 on Saturday. The junior finished three strokes ahead of Jackson Wendling. Wendling fired his best round of the tournament with a one-over-par 73. The freshman finished tied for 71st place at 229 strokes after carding 77 and 79 on Friday and Saturday.

Sean Song carded a 76 in the final round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate. The freshman tied for 88th place at 233 strokes after a 75 and 82 in the first two rounds.

Freshman Jace Guthmiller also posted his best round of the tournament on Sunday, carding an 80 to place him in a tie at 114th place with 247 strokes. Kansas won the competition, shooting 866 as a team. The Big Red will continue their spring campaign on March 5-6, when they travel to Scottsdale, Ariz., for the Desert Mountain Invitational hosted by Michigan.
