Houston - The second-ranked Nebraska bowling team wrapped up a successful tournament Sunday, finishing third at the SFA Stormin' Ladyjack Classic at Lanes Off Bellaire in Houston.
The Cornhuskers (69-26) dropped their first two matches in Sunday's best-of-seven Baker format tournament, but defeated top-ranked Arkansas State in the third-place match by a score of 4-1.
Eleventh-ranked North Carolina A&T led the tournament wire-to-wire and defeated No. 6 Fairleigh Dickinson, 4-3, in the championship match.
The Huskers, who began the day as the second seed, dropped a 4-1 decision to North Carolina A&T and fell 4-1 to Fairleigh Dickinson.
Texas native Melanie Crawford finished fourth overall with an average of 217.8, while Briana Zabierek finished fifth with an average of 217.2.
The Huskrs will return to action next Friday through Sunday, Feb. 19-21, at the Warhawk Invitational in Kenosha, Wis. The tournament is hosted by Wisconsin-Whitewater, which is ranked No. 7 in the nation. The Huskers have not competed at a tournament hosted by Wisconsin-Whitewater since 2008, when they won the championship. NU also competed in tournaments hosted by UWW in 2003, 2004 and 2007. Shannon Pluhowsky's Nebraska record for single-tournament average of 254 came at the 2003 Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational on Nov. 9, 2003.
