Huskers Suffer Loss to No. 46 Oregon Ducks

Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska men's tennis team fought hard but fell to No. 46 Oregon, 6-1, on Sunday at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.

With the loss, Nebraska fell to 2-2 on the season, with both losses to ranked opponents. Tomislav Antoljak earned Nebraska's lone point with a victory at No. 6 singles, defeating Ethan Young-Smith. Antoljak was dominant in taking the opening set by a score 6-1, before being tested in set two, when he won a tiebreaker (8-6) to claim the match with a 7-6 win.

At No. 1 singles, Dusty Boyer took the first set from Oregon's Daan Maasland, only to see Maasland rally to win the next two sets and take the match. At the No. 2 spot, Marc Hermann dropped the first set to Thomas Laurent, 6-2, and fought back to take set two down to the wire before losing 7-5. Toby Boyer had a similar fate at No. 3 singles, losing the first set to Simon Stevens, 7-5, propelling Stevens to a two-set win. Ford Zitsch and Andrew Dzulynsky also lost in straight sets at the Nos. 4 and 5 spots, respectively.

Oregon also won the doubles point. The Ducks earned the point with a win over Nebraska's No. 2 doubles pair of Zitsch and Dzulynsky and a victory at No. 3 doubles over Scot Elsass and Hermann. At No. 1 doubles, the Boyer brothers played well for the second straight match, but again saw their match not finish due to the doubles point already being decided. After leading 6-5 on Friday, the Boyers led Oregon's Jayson Amos and Armando Soemarno, 4-2, at the No. 1 doubles spot before the match was halted.

Although the Huskers lost both matches this weekend, they hope to build off the experienced gained against strong competition. Nebraska is in action against next Sunday, when it wraps up a five-game homestand against UMKC at the Dillon Tennis Center. The match starts at 3 p.m. and admission is free.
