Huskers Top Illini on Senior Day

Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska swimming and diving team earned their fifth victory of the season, Saturday morning, defeating Illinois, 162-138. The Huskers were led by Taryn Collura, Anna Filipcic, Jordan Ehly and Erin Oeltjen, with each of them earning two individual victories on the day.

Nebraska started the meet off in exciting fashion racing to a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Jacqueline Juffer, Ehly, Oeltjen and Collura finished in a time of 1:44.88.

Kaylyn Flatt and Katt Sickle turned in strong performances for Nebraska in the 1,000-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle races, respectively. Flatt captured a second-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:22.35, while Sickle finished in third in the 200-yard freestyle finishing in a time of 1:54.85.

Oeltjen and Juffer led NU in the 100-yard backstroke, with Oeltjen taking the title and Juffer following shortly behind in third. Oeltjen finished in a time of 57.53, while Juffer posted a time of 58.33.

Ehly notched her first victory of the morning in the 100-yard breaststroke. The sophomore from Las Cruces, N.M., raced to a time of 1:04.85. Katie Ditter rounded out the top-three posting a time of 1:06.35, fast enough for third-place.

Following a third-place finish from Dana Posthuma in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.19), Nebraska continued its dominance by sweeping the top-two spots in the 50-yard freestyle. Collura earned her first victory of the day after finishing in a time of 23.29, while Alexandra Bilunas secured runner-up posting a time of 23.93.

In both the one-meter and three-meter events Filipcic and Nicole Schwery swept the top-two spots. Filipcic earned first-place in both events posting a score of 317.18 in the one-meter dive and 359.03 in the three-meter. Schwery tallied a second-place score of 297.75 in the one-meter dive and 304.73 in the three-meter dive.

Collura, Oeltjen and Ehly earned first-place finishes in the next three events for Nebraska. Collura notched her second victory of the morning in the 100-yard freestyle, posting a time of 51.14. Oeltjen swam a time of 2:00.91 in the 200-yard backstroke fast enough for her second victory, while Ehly earned her final victory of the morning in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:17.26.

Sickle and Deveaux led the Huskers in the next two events of the morning. Sickle finished runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:03.92, while Deveaux notched a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.01.

Nebraska secured its dual-meet victory over Illinois after taking second- and third-place in the 200-yard individual medley. Ehly led the Huskers with a second-place time of 2:08.45, while Anna McDonald finished right after in third-place with a time of 2:08.47.

Nebraska finished out the meet in exciting fashion as the 200-yard freestyle relay team edged out Illinois for first-place. The team of Bilunas, Deveaux, Oeltjen and Collura finished in a time of 1:35.23.

Nebraska will be back in action in a little less than a week as they travel to Pullman, Wash., to take on Washington State.
