Huskers Shine on Senior Day

Lincoln, Neb. — The Nebraska rifle team ended the fall season on a high note, flying by the Akron Zips at the NU Rifle Range on Saturday by a score of 4,670-4,612. As the final home match of the season, it marked senior day for Alexandrea Lorentz, Marissa Major, Denise Martin and Magdalena Mical

No. 11 Nebraska, which closed the fall portion of its campaign with a 4-4 record, topped No. 14 Akron in smallbore by a score of 2,310-2,299.  Rachel Martin led the Husker team with a score of 583. Magdalena Mical fired a 578, while Denise Martin tallied a 575. Jaycee Carter and Alexandrea Lorentz both finished with 574. Akron’s Caleb Lloyd was the high scorer for the Zips with 580.  Julia Hatch followed closely behind with 579. 

The Huskers have been on fire in air rifle the season and the trend continued against Akron. The team finished with an air rifle score of 2,360, the sixth-best score in school history. R. Martin was the top shooter of the day in air rifle as well. The junior finished with 596. D. Martin and Lorentz both made a mark during their last home match of the season, each firing personal best scores. D. Martin finished with 593 and Lorentz ended the day with 591.  Akron was led in air rifle by Zach Strohl’s score of 586. The Zips ended the day with a team air rifle score of 2,313. 

The Huskers will take nearly two months to prepare for the spring season. NU resumes competition on Jan. 16 when the team travels to Oxford, Miss., to take on Murray State and Ole Miss.
