NU Tops SDSU to Complete Weekend Sweep

Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska swimming and diving team earned their second victory of the weekend and third of the season, defeating South Dakota State 180-109. Ten different Huskers earned individual titles, while claiming 15 of 16 events against the Jackrabbits.

Katt Sickle captured Nebraska’s first victory of the day in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Sickle raced to a first place time of 10:32.87, while teammate Brooke Holmes finished in the second spot swimming a time of 10:39.51.

Nebraska continued its dominance in the freestyle events earning first and second in the 50-yard freestyle. Taryn Collura finished in first with a time of 23.59, while Lindsay Helferich finished in second place swimming a time of 24.63.

Helferich and Alexandra Bilunas led the Huskers in the 100-yard freestyle. Helferich raced to a first place finish with a time of 53.95, while Bilunas finished just behind Helferich with a time of 53.96.

Kaylyn Flatt earned two victories on the day for Nebraska. Flatt’s first victory came in the 200-yard freestyle finishing in a time of 1:56.04. Flatt’s second victory of the afternoon came in the 500-yard freestyle posting a time of 5:11.52. Julia Roller finished right behind Flatt earning second place with a time of 5:14.31.

Nebraska secured the top two spots in the 100-yard backstroke. The duo of Jacqueline Juffer and Erin Oeltjen finished first and second, respectively. Juffer posted a time of 56.24, while Oeltjen finished in a time of 58.13. The Huskers were dominant in the 200-yard backstroke, as well. Morgan McCafferty led the way with a first place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.21), while McDonald finished in second (2:07.23).

Two freshmen teamed up notching first and second in the 200-yard butterfly. Dana Posthuma led Nebraska with a time of 2:06.82, while Jacqueline Jeschke finished right behind Posthuma with a time of 2:09.35. Collura and Ehly took the top two spots in the 100-yard butterfly swimming times of 56.59 and 59.76, respectively.

In the breaststroke events, Jordan Ehly led Nebraska capturing a first place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke racing to a time of 1:04.73. Katie Ditter finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke swimming a time of 2:26.47.

Nebraska was dominant in the diving well with Anna Filipcic capturing first in both the one- and three-meter dives. Filipcic posted a score of 310.80 in the one-meter dive and a score of 322.05 in the three-meter dive. Nicole Schwery earned second place finishes in both the one- and three-meter dives posting scores of 266.40 and 288.82, respectively.

Nebraska capped off its impressive performance by claiming first and second in the 400-yard individual medley. Sickle earned her second victory of the day finishing in a time of 4:34.62, while Roller finished right behind Sickle with a time of 4:36.09.

Nebraska swept the relay events against South Dakota State. The 400-yard medley relay team of Morgan McCafferty, Ehly, Deveaux and Collura finished first in a time of 3:53.13, while the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Collura, Bilunas, Oeltjen and Helferich posted a time of 1:35.88.

Nebraska will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Lawrence, Kan., to take on Kansas. That meet will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, at the University of Kansas’ Robinson Natatorium. Check back in to Huskers.com for any and all updates regarding the Nebraska swimming and diving team.
