Huskers Dominate Panthers for Second Victory

Cedar Falls, Iowa- The Nebraska swimming and diving team earned its second victory of the season in a dominating fashion, defeating Northern Iowa 150-88. The Huskers captured victories in 12 of 13 events and were led by Katt Sickle, Jordan Ehly and Anna Filipcic, with each notching two victories against the Panthers.

Sickle earned victories in both the 200- and 500-yard freestyles. The junior secured her first victory in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.11, while posting a first place time of 5:06.31 in the 500-yard freestyle.

Ehly’s wins came in the 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard breaststroke. Ehly raced to a first place time of 2:10.32 in the 200-yard individual medley and finished in 2:23.12 to earn her second victory of the day in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Nebraska’s final multiple event winner, Filipcic, continued her dominance in the diving well. Filipcic notched victories in both the one- and three-meter dives posting scores of 316.27 and 323.02, respectively.

Nebraska swept the top-two spots in the 200-yard butterfly. Julia Roller raced to a first place time of 2:07.99, while Bria Deveaux finished shortly after Roller with a time of 2:08.58.

Three other Huskers earned victories Friday against Northern Iowa. Kaylyn Flatt and Taryn Collura earned victories in the freestyle events. Flatt earned a first place touch in the 1,000-yard freestyle racing to a time of 10:33.51, while Collura posted a first place time of 51.49 in the 100-yard freestyle. Nebraska’s final individual event winner of the day was Erin Oeltjen. The junior’s victory came in the 200-yard backstroke swimming a time of 2:04.01.

Roller (200-yard freestyle), Alexandra Bilunas (50-yard freestyle) and Morgan McCafferty (200-yard individual medley) all earned second place finishes for Nebraska against Northern Iowa.

To cap off Nebraska’s dominate evening in the pool, the Huskers swept both the relay events.  The 200-yard medley relay team of Jacqueline Juffer, Ehly, Collura and Helferich finished in 1:46.88, while the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Juffer, Collura, Bilunas and Oeltjen finished the evening with a first place time of 1:36.22.

The Nebraska swimming and diving team will return home tomorrow to take on South Dakota State at 2 p.m. Tomorrow’s meet will feature a special Halloween theme, with 100 Halloween duckies and 100 trick or treat pillow cases being given away at tomorrow’s meet.
