Evanston, Ill. - The Nebraska men’s and women’s cross country teams compete at the Big Ten Championships this Sunday at Sydney Marovitz Golf Course. The men’s race will begin at 10:45 a.m. CT and the women’s race will follow at 11:45 a.m. CT.
The men’s team has high hopes for the competition as they have finished in the top three in all of their competitions this season along with two first-place crowns. Behind juniors Peter Spinks and Jacob Olson, the Huskers have put up solid times throughout the course of the season.
"On the men's side, we're really trying to gain some respect in this league," Head Coach David Harris said. "I think this group of guys is on a target to overachieve right now from the respect they've gotten in the past."
Harris is confident in the men's team and is hoping they take a big step and make history for the program.
"I feel like we're ready to run our best race of the year. We are aiming for a top-10 finish, to move up higher than we've ever been." Harris said.
The women's team is looking to make an impact in the competition as well. The Huskers have remained solid competitors throughout the season behind sophomore Bonnie Smith, despite the injury to lead runner Anna Peer.
"For the women, with our youth and the fact that we've missed our leader (Peer) all year, it's going to be a tough race," Harris said. "We're going to see if we can beat some teams and also achieve our best race of the year as well."
