Lincoln - The Nebraska softball team opened the Big Red Fall Classic with a 6-3 win over UNO in a 10-inning exhibition Friday evening at Bowlin Stadium. With the win, the Huskers moved to 4-0 in the fall exhibition season.
Sophomore right-hander Kaylan Jablonski earned the win in the circle for Nebraska, allowing only two hits and one walk in 5.0 shutout innings. Junior right-hander Cassie McClure picked up the save by striking out two in a scoreless 10th inning. Senior right-hander Emily Lockman earned the start and allowed three runs on four hits over the first 4.0 innings.
Offensively senior Kiki Stokes hit a two-run homer to give the Huskers a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Back-to-back doubles from junior MJ Knighten and senior Alicia Armstrong stretched the lead to 3-0.
UNO answered the Huskers with three runs in the bottom of the fourth before Nebraska took the lead for good with two more runs in the top of the fifth on a two-run double from Armstrong.
Nebraska added its final run in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI single from senior Mattie Fowler.
Armstrong drove in three in the victory, while Stokes had a pair of RBIs. Counting Fowler's run-scoring single, Nebraska's seniors drove in all six runs.
Nebraska returns to action tomorrow with a pair of games at Bowlin Stadium. The Huskers face Colorado State at 10 a.m. before a rematch with UNO at 1:30 p.m. Both games will last 10 innings and admission is free.
