Lincoln, Neb. – Sophomore Alli Peterson scored the first goal of her career in the 81st minute to lead Nebraska to a 1-0 win over Maryland at Hibner Stadium on Wednesday night.
With the win, the Huskers finish the regular season with an 8-7-2 record overall and a 4-5-2 mark in the Big Ten. Maryland drops to 6-12-1, with a 1-9-1 record in Big Ten play.
Despite the win against the Terrapins, Nebraska does not qualify for the Big Ten Tournament due to the outcomes of other conference games on Wednesday night. Ohio State clinched the No. 7 seed with its win over Michigan State, while Illinois took the eighth seed with its win over Minnesota.
With an RPI Ranking of 42nd and a strength of schedule of third nationally, the Huskers will find out if they qualify for the NCAA Tournament following the completion of the Big Ten Tournament.
Wednesday night’s game was tied 0-0 at halftime despite the Huskers outshooting the Terrapins, 10-1. For the game, Nebraska dominated in shots (18-5) and shots on goal (12-3).
Goalkeeper Erika Johnson collected two saves in 90 minutes of action. With less than two minutes left, Caroline Buelt blocked a shot attempt from Riley Barger to preserve the shutout.
Before the game, Jaylyn Odermann and Katie Kraeutner were honored on the field as part of Senior Night. The attendance at Wednesday night’s game was 1,083, which gives the Huskers a total of 12,427 fans for the season. It is the second-highest season attendance in school history, trailing only the 1999 season, which produced 19,874 fans.
