Huskers Conquer Memphis, Fall to TCU

Fort Worth, Texas — The No. 8 Nebraska rifle team competed in a two-day match against No. 9 Memphis and No. 5 TCU on Saturday and Sunday. The Huskers came in second, defeating Memphis, but getting beat by TCU. NU finished with a final team score of 4,675.  TCU scored 4,708 and Memphis scored 4,654.

On Saturday, Memphis competed, along with part of TCU’s squad. The Tigers finished the day with 2,306 in smallbore and 2,348 in air rifle. On Sunday, the remaining part of TCU’s team shot with the Huskers.  TCU’s final smallbore score was 2,336 and the Horned Frogs air rifle score was 2,372.

Rachel Martin was the top performer in smallbore for the Huskers.  The junior produced a 583 finishing as the second-best smallbore competitor overall.  Jaycee Carter, Martin and TCU’s Nicole Hankey had the best air rifle score overall, with 594. Denise Martin also had a solid day in both disciplines. The senior finished with 581 in smallbore and 591 in air rifle.  The Huskers finished with a smallbore total of 2,306 and an air rifle score of 2,369. 

The Huskers travel to South Carolina this weekend to take on North Carolina State on Oct. 31 and Army on Nov. 1. Both matches are set to begin at 7 am.
