Iowa City, Iowa - The Nebraska soccer team scored its most goals in a game this season to defeat Iowa, 5-3, at Iowa Soccer Complex on Friday night.
With the win, the Huskers improve to 7-7-2 on the season and 3-5-2 in Big Ten play. Iowa drops to 7-9-1 and 1-8-1 in the Big Ten. Nebraska’s scoring effort was its most goals in a game since an 8-1 win over Northern Arizona on Sept. 4, 2011.
Sydney Miramontez earned four points in the game, as she assisted on each of NU’s first two goals and added a goal of her own in the 44th minute. Caroline Flynn and Haley Hanson each scored twice in the game.
Flynn struck first off a Miramontez assist in the second minute to give NU a 1-0 edge. Flynn scored her second goal in the 52nd minute off a Caroline Buelt assist, which gave the Huskers a 4-2 lead at the time.
Hanson tied the score 2-2 in the 29th minute off an assist from Miramontez. Hanson tallied the final goal of the game in the 55th minute off an assist by Michaela Loebel.
Nebraska edged the Hawkeyes in shots (18-9), shots on goal (10-6) and corner kicks (11-2). Goalkeeper Erika Johnson collected three saves in 90 minutes of action.
The Huskers return home for Senior Night on Wednesday against Maryland and Hibner Stadium. The game is scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m. and will be streamed on BTN Plus.
