Husker Men Place Second at Bradley Classic

Peoria, Ill. - The Nebraska cross country teams closed the regular season at the Bradley Classic on Friday afternoon at Newman Golf Course.

The Nebraska men put together a strong performance to finish second in the 8K race with 107 points for their fourth top-three finish in four races this season.

Jacob Olson finished 13th overall in 24:28.4 to lead the Husker men. Olson's time was the best 8K time of the junior's Husker career. A pack of three Huskers following behind helped boost NU to the second-place finish out of 26 teams. Peter Spinks, Matt Gilbert and Alec Sery were 19th, 20th and 22nd overall, respectively. Spinks crossed the line in 24:34.3, Gilbert in 24:35.8 and Sery in 24:37.6. Wyatt McGuire was 33rd in 24:52.1, Austin Post was 39th in 24:56.0.

All six of those Huskers posted a better time than the top Husker time at last year's Bradley Classic (24:59.7).

The Husker women came in 17th place out of 26 teams with 395 points. It was Bonnie Smith who once again led the squad, and did so with her best time of the season. The sophomore ran the 6K course in 21:19.4 to finish 27th. Haley Harsin was the next Husker to cross the line, doing so with a time of 21:53.1 to finish 69th. Megan Lush came in 78th place with a time of 21:58.5.

Nebraska will now turn its focus to training for the Big Ten Championships. The conference meet will run on Sunday, Nov. 1 in Evanston, Ill. at 10:45 a.m.
