Chicago, Ill.—The Nebraska soccer team rallied from a first-half tie in the first official road game of the season, taking down No. 20 DePaul 3-1 at Wish Field on Sunday.
NU got off to a quick start early in the first half, as senior Jaylyn Odermann headed in a shot in the 16th minute off a double assist from juniors Jaycie Johnson and Sydney Miramontez for her third goal of the season.
The Blue Demons responded just three minutes later, after sophomore Alexa Ben found the open left corner of the net with an assist from senior Sarah Gorden to tie the game. The score remained even at 1-1 heading into halftime.
Nebraska regained momentum in the second half, outshooting DePaul 9-6. Senior Katie Kraeutner broke the tie at the 54-minute mark with an unassisted free kick to put the Huskers ahead 2-1.
The Big Red extended the lead further in the 73rd minute, as redshirt freshman Lia Baldo headed in the ball past the keeper with help from a Miramontez corner kick to end the game 3-1.
Sophomore Erika Johnson notched her third career win at goalkeeper for NU, racking up a total of five saves.
Nebraska returns home on Friday, Sept. 11 for a battle with No. 5 North Carolina at Hibner Field, before traveling to Columbia, Mo., to take on Missouri on Sunday, Sept. 13. Friday’s match is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. (CT).
