Lincoln - Coach Mike Riley and the Huskers met with the media on Monday at Memorial Stadium to discuss the Nebraska football team's Big Ten opener at Illinois on Saturday.
The Huskers (2-2) will try to notch their third straight win against the Fighting Illini (3-1) to open Big Ten action, when the two teams kick off at Memorial Stadium in Champaign at 2:30 p.m. Live television coverage will be provided by BTN.
Nebraska is coming off a 36-28 Homecoming win over Southern Miss to close non-conference play on Saturday. Junior quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. passed for 368 yards while producing a career-high 431 yards of total offense.
Jordan Westerkamp, a junior wide receiver from Lombard, Ill., added a career day of his own with 11 receptions for 118 yards against the Golden Eagles. Westerkamp has caught a touchdown pass in five straight games, and a TD catch against the Illini in his home state would tie a school record held by 1972 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Rodgers for consecutive games with a touchdown reception.
Illinois enters Big Ten play with a 3-1 mark after a 27-25 win over Middle Tennessee on Saturday. The Fighting Illini are led by quarterback Wes Lunt and running back Josh Ferguson. Lunt has completed better than 60 percent of his passes for more than 210 yards per game, while Ferguson is averaging nearly five yards per carry on the ground. Ferguson owns more than 2,000 career rushing yards and 1,000 career receiving yards for the Illini.
