Early Scoring Propels NU to First Big Ten Win

Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska soccer team (5-3-2, 1-1-2) scored twice in the first seven minutes en route to a 2-0 triumph over Ohio State at Barbara Hibner Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Husker offense controlled the first half, outshooting the Buckeyes, 10-6, in the first 45-minute frame. In the fifth minute, junior Courtney Claassen scored her first goal of the season to give NU a 1-0 advantage. Caroline Flynn added a goal in the seventh minute, her third of the 2015 campaign. Senior Jaylyn Odermann assisted on both Husker scores.

Flynn led the team with four shots, two of which were on goal. Lia Baldo and Haley Hanson each managed two shots on goal, while Katie Kraeutner added one. NU took 13 shots for the game, and attempted five corner kicks compared to Ohio State’s three.

Sophomore goalkeeper Erika Johnson earned seven saves en route to her fourth shutout of the season. She finished the weekend with 13 saves and one goal allowed in 200 minutes of action.

The Huskers return to action on Friday against Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind. The game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed on BTN Plus.
