Southern Miss Player Quotes

Junior Quarterback Nick Mullens
On how he felt about the game
"It's nice to just sit back on it and reflect. Obviously we gave it all we got, everything we had we left it out on the field. First half we struggled, but it is a matter of pushing through and fighting and seeing what works. I thought we did a good job of that. The coaching staff, offense and defense worked as a unit. It is a resilient group of men who try to make plays and win the game. I thought it was one of the funnest football games I have ever played in. An awesome opportunity here at Nebraska. We played a great team and we have a lot to look forward to."

On if this game was a game of what ifs
"No doubt, we definitely missed out on some opportunities. After the game I was pretty mad at myself because I could have easily thrown the ball and got a chance at the Hail Mary, so I was frustrated coming off the field. We had opportunities to capitalize early, and obviously that kind of hurt us there late. We have to stay focused, move forward and work your hardest and play a complete ball game. If we do that we will have success."

On what happened in the first half with Nebraska keeping them out of the end zone
"The path was there, we just couldn't find a way to utilize them or get to them as much. The second half we had a lot of man beaters. We have a lot of play-makers on offense. Once we figure out how to get them the ball and let them move around and space, that's when we will have success. I was really proud of our offensive line the second half. The first half we struggled a little bit towards the end. I was not any kind of flustered the second half, because the O-line did such a good job."

On how hard it is for him without any running plays
"Honestly I didn't really think about it. I just try and focus on whatever call is made and that's what we buy into, that's what we believe in and obviously the last game the running game was awesome for us, while this game we threw it a little bit more. Whatever is working and whatever we feel is best is what we will do at that time. I thought we did a good job of that today."

On what he saw with Nebraska's throws
"Well obviously they mix and match the end-zone coverage, and you know we really have faith in our play-makers. Once we have our five guys matched up with certain defenders on certain spots on the field we believe they can work in space and get them the ball. That's when we will have success."

Senior Wide Receiver Casey Martin
On what was different with their offense
"A slow start, just trying to feel their defense out. It threw us off a little bit, the amount of man-to-man. Just knowing the type of team we are, and the type of offense we are and just adjusting. It is real good we could adjust like that."

On what adjustments they made
"Just reading the defense and knowing they are going to be in our face and we have to be more aggressive. We have to win our battles."

On what he learned from this game
"I learned that we are a really good football team and there is no reason we can't win every game from here out."
