Huskers Tie No. 12 Nittany Lions, 1-1

Lincoln, Neb. – For the second consecutive game, the Nebraska soccer team (4-3-2, 0-1-2 Big Ten) earned a draw, as the Huskers tied No. 12 Penn State, 1-1, at Barbara Hibner Stadium on Friday night.

NU struck first in the sixth minute as junior Caroline Flynn’s shot deflected off Penn State goalkeeper Britt Eckerstrom into the back of the net. Flynn led the Husker offense with three shots in the game, while senior Jaylyn Odermann added two. Flynn’s goal marked her second of the 2015 campaign.

In the first half, Nebraska outshot Penn State, 5-3, while Husker goalkeeper Erika Johnson collected two saves. She added three saves in the second half and one in the first overtime period.

The Nittany Lions went on a flurry in the final 15 minutes of regulation, taking four corner kicks in a five-minute span, and outshot the Huskers in the second half, 10-1. In the 82nd minute, Penn State’s Emily Ogle found the back of the net to tie the game, 1-1.

Penn State continued to attack in both overtime periods and outshot NU, 5-0, in that span. However, the Husker defense held strong to preserve the draw.

The Huskers return to action at Hibner Stadium on Sunday against Ohio State at 1:05 p.m. (CT). The game will be streamed on BTN Plus.
