Ann Arbor, Mich. – The Nebraska soccer team (4-3-0, 0-1-0 Big Ten) fell to Michigan, 2-0, in its Big Ten opener at U-M Soccer Stadium on Friday night.
The Wolverines scored both of their goals in the first eight minutes, while freshman goalkeeper Sarah Jackson had two saves in her shutout performance. Michigan’s Taylor Timko started the scoring with her seventh goal of the season off an assist from Corinne Harris and Christina Murillo in the seventh minute. The Wolverines struck again 36 seconds later as Ani Sarkisian scored an unassisted goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Erika Johnson started the game for the Huskers and collected five saves in the first 58 minutes. Freshman goalkeeper Leslie Rowell played the final 32 minutes for the Big Red.
On the offensive end, the Huskers had a number of looks, taking eight shots for the game, but couldn’t convert against the U-M defense. Haley Hanson and Sydney Miramontez each managed one shot on goal to pace the Husker offense.
The defeat marked Nebraska’s first road loss of the 2015 campaign after a 2-0 start. Michigan improves to 6-3-0 after its conference opener.
The Huskers continue their weekend road trip in East Lansing, Mich., on Sunday. NU will face Michigan State at noon (CT) at DeMartin Soccer Complex. The game will not be televised, but live stats are available on GameTracker.
