Andersson, Hanna Open Strong at Missouri Invite

A busy morning turned into a productive day for the Nebraska women’s tennis team, as the Huskers overcame early morning rain that forced the Missouri Invitational to move from the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Mo., to the Overland Park Racquet Club in Kansas.

Despite the adjustments in venue and schedule, Lisa Andersson (Varberg, Sweden) led the Huskers by producing three combined victories (two doubles, one singles) on the opening day of the fall season.

Andersson began her successful day by teaming with Mary Hanna (Saline, Mich.) for a hard-fought, 7-5 win over the Louisville duo of Olivia Boesing and Chloe Willetts.

The close matches continued against the Cardinals, but Louisville picked up doubles wins in the four other contests in the early morning clashes.

The Huskers continued head-to-head doubles matches with success against Big Ten Conference rival Penn State, picking up a pair of victories. Hanna and Maggy Lehmicke (Kirkland, Wash.) joined forces for a 6-2 victory to give Hanna her second doubles win of the day. Vasanti Shinde (Pune, India) and Andersson added a 6-2 win over their own to provide Andersson with her second doubles victory of the young season.

During singles play on Friday afternoon, Andersson notched her third victory of the day with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Missouri's Cassidy Spearman.

Katerina Matysova (Erding, Germany) added a singles victory with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 come-from-behind win over Missouri's Brianna Lashway.

Sydney Harlow (Omaha, Neb.) gave the Huskers a third victory over a Tiger foe with another comeback, battling her way to a 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-0 win.

Weather-permitting, Saturday's action at the Missouri Invitational is expected to return to the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City. The Huskers are scheduled to begin play against Penn State at 9 a.m. Live stats will be available at Huskers.com.
