Normal, Ill. - Nebraska men’s golf team is tied for 5th place after the first day at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate. NU carded 299 and 294 in the first two rounds at the par 71, 6,915-yard layout.
Junior Mike Colgate leads the Huskers heading into Monday’s final round. The Sarasota, Fla., native carded a 76 in the first round before firing a second round 68 that was highlighted by a eagle on the par-4, 366-yard first hole. Colgate is tied for 6th place. Freshman Sean Song finished the first day tied for 26th place. Song carded a pair of 74s to finish 6-over par going into the final day of action.
Junior Justin Jennings started the day by carding a 74 before a second round 76. The Amarillo, Texas, native is tied for 32nd. Finishing one stroke behind Jennings is Joel Sneed. Sneed carded 75 and 76 in the first two rounds of action. The freshman is tied for 44th place. Jackson Wendling opened the day with an 80 before managing a second round 76.
Host Illinois State leads the team competition after posting 575 over two rounds. The Huskers will close out the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate’s final round on Monday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Live stats will be available on Golfstat.com.
