Edwards Twins Claim NPF Title with Chicago Bandits

Former Husker All-Americans Tatum and Taylor Edwards were crowned champions of the National Pro Fastpitch league Monday night, when the Chicago Bandits shut out the USSSA Pride, 1-0, in the second game of a best-of-three championship series.

Taylor Edwards, who helped Chicago to the championship series with a two-run, walk-off home run in game one of a semifinal series with the Akron Racers, was 0-for-1 in the championship game with a pair of walks. Edwards drew the only two walks allowed by Cat Osterman, including an intentional walk in the bottom of the fifth inning. In game one of the championship series – another 1-0 Bandits victory – Edwards doubled to produce the lone extra-base hit of the game for either team. Edwards, the 2015 All-NPF catcher, also caught a Monica Abbott shutout for the second straight game. Tatum Edwards finished 0-for-1 in the championship game after striking out as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning.

The NPF title was the first professional title for the Edwards twins, who also won a Big Ten, NCAA Regional and NCAA Super Regional title with the Huskers. Taylor Edwards homered once and drove in two runs in four playoff games, finishing the year tied for the league lead with 10 home runs and 31 RBIs.
