The Nebraska men's tennis team's Dusty Boyer won the U.S. Open National Playoffs Missouri Valley Sectional Qualifying event held at Homestead Coutnry club in Prairie Village, Kan., May 28-30.
Boyer, a 2016 senior from Ham Lake, Minn., captured victories in both singles and mixed doubles at the U.S. Open qualifying event.
Boyer claimed the singles championship with a victory over Alexander Brown 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-2. After dropping the first set, Boyer showed his determination in the last two sets and rallied for the victory.
Later the same day, Boyer and Julia Schiller, a junior at Wichita State, teamed up in mixed doubles competition to compete against Kelley Seeberger and Matt Seeberger. Boyer and Schiller split the first two sets with the Seeberger's, 7-6, 3-6, before taking the match with a 1-0 win in the final set for the mixed doubles title.
The 2015 U.S. Open will begin on Monday, Aug. 31, and runs through Sunday, Sept. 13.
