Huskers Conclude Regular Season with Nebraska Invite

Lincoln - Some top athletes returned to the Nebraska track and field lineup with event-winning performances at the Nebraska Invitational on Saturday at Ed Weir Stadium, just in time for the Big Ten Outdoor Championships next week. 

In his first 200-meter race this outdoor season, Ricco Hall ran 20.97 to win the event and move into a tie for third in the Big Ten. Hall had competed in just two relays this outdoor season entering Saturday's final regular-season meet. Cody Rush, competing for the first time this outdoor season after having surgery, won the 400 meters in 47.26, which ranks 11th in the Big Ten. 

While Hall and Rush returned to action in NU's final home meet, other Huskers continued their dominating outdoor seasons with more event wins. Big Ten leader Steven Cahoy won the men's pole vault, clearing 17-5 3/4 (5.33m). Big Ten leader Marusa Cernjul won the high jump at 6-0 1/2 (1.84m). Grant Anderson cleared a personal-best 7-1 (2.16m) to win the high jump. He took sole possession of third place in the Big Ten. 

Carlie Pinkelman, with a season-best 186-6 (56.86m), was the top collegiate finisher in the women's hammer throw. Will Lohman won the men's shot put, tossing 58-9 1/4 (17.91m). He was also the No. 2 collegiate finisher in the men's hammer throw at 201-10 (61.51m). 

Jordan Stiens won the 110m hurdles with a personal-best 13.60, good for eighth in the Big Ten this season. Sean Pille was the top collegiate finisher in the 110m hurdles with a season-best time of 13.88. Andrew Neal ran a PR 14.45 to move into a tie for ninth in the Big Ten, giving the Huskers four of the top 10 marks in the conference. Pille also took top collegiate honors in the 400m hurdles in 51.74. In an important race for the Huskers' Big Ten selections, Mark Hilderbrand ran 52.88 and Neal ran 53.45.

Jerry Westerfield was the top men's collegiate finisher in the long jump at 23-2 3/4 (7.08m). Danielle Jones was the top collegiate finisher in the triple jump with a personal-best 40-9 3/4 (12.44m). The top women's javelin collegiate was Maddie Osmundson at 149-1 (45.45m), a new season best. 

Tess Merrill won the women's pole vault at 13-3 3/4 (4.06m). Reilly Lambrecht was the only men's triple jumper, but set a PR of 47-9 3/4 (14.57). Breunna McCarty won the 100m in 12.03. Competing unattached, Karolina Pahlitzsch had the top women's 400m time of 54.99. Morgan Woitzel was next at 55.84. Austin Post (8:52.66) edged teammate Pat Letz for the 3,000-meter title. 

The Huskers swept both 4x100 relays. The women (Tierra Williams, Brena Andrews, Jazmin McCoy, McCarty) clocked a 46.56, while the men (Malcolm White, Hall, Antoine Lloyd, Rush) ran 40.33. The women's 4x400 (Lexie Oak, Woitzel, Haley Harsin, Kristen Dowell) also won in 3:47.14. 

Reka Czuth had a season-best long jump of 19-11 1/2 (6.08m) to finish second in the event and move into fourth in the Big Ten. 

The Huskers travel to East Lansing, Mich., next week for the Big Ten Outdoor Championships. The meet begins Friday, May 15 and ends Sunday, May 17.
