No. 73 Huskers Defeat Boilmakers 4-3

West Lafayette, Ind. - The No. 73 Huskers took on the Purdue Boilmakers. NU went 4-3 at Schwartz Tennis Center, bringing home a win for the team and putting them with a 10-8 mark for the season and 3-3 in Big Ten play. The Huskers continue their season on Wednesday, Apr. 8 at 4 p.m. in Lincoln where they will compete against the Iowa Hawkeyes. 

Competition began well for the Huskers, the team grabbed wins at both the No. 2 and No. 3 positions giving them the doubles point and giving them an advantage. At No. 3, Charlie Shin and Marc Herrmann took on the Boilermakers' Matt Bouggy and Mateus Silva where they gained a quick win going 8-1. At No. 2 Scott Elsass and Linus Erhart defeated the team of Arthur Dobradin and Lucas Dages where they 8-2 in another great win for the team. Dusty Boyer and Bradford Zitsch competed against Diego Acosta and Ricky Medinilla at No. 1 where they went 7-4 but did not finish their match. 

In singles play, Marc Herrmann took on the No. 2 position where he competed against the talented Ricky Medinilla. Herrmann lost his match where Medinilla took the upper-hand going 6-1, 6-1.

At No. 6, Bradford Zitsch generated a great win for his team against Matt Bouggy. The two went 6-3 in the first set and 6-2 in the second putting the total tally at 2-1, the Huskers with the lead. 

Chris Hobgarski also snatched a win for the Huskers at No. 5. Hobgarski played Purdue's Lucas Dages going 6-2, 6-3 in a great performance by Hobgarski.

Linus Erhart completed the Huskers fourth win of the day where he competed against Mateus Silva at No. 3. The two played two sets going 6-4, 6-4 securing the win for Nebraska.

At No. 4 Andrew Dzulynsky took on Arthur Dobradin in a tight match. In the first set, Dobradin took the win going 6-3. Dzulynsky took back control in the second set but ultimately lost in the final putting the last two set scores at 3-6, 6-4.

Finishing up the match, Dusty Boyer played a very competitive and close match against Diego Acosta at No. 1. Boyer won the first set 4-6 but lost the next two sets in tight play, both resulting in tie breakers. Acosta took the win in the second going 7-6(0) and again in the third resulting in a 7-6(4) mark. 

"We dominated in doubles today," said Coach McDermott. "Linus and Scott continued their winning and also a hats off to Charlie Shin who stepped in big at No. 3 doubles with Marc to dominated against their opponnents. Linus, Chris, and Ford picked up the wins in singles and secured a victory for the team. We didn't play a complete match which is disappointing but we found a way to win. We have a huge match at home on Wednesday against Iowa that we are excited for and are ready to get after it!"
