Blanske Tumbles to Success at NCAA Event Finals

Fort Worth, Texas—The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team officially wrapped up the 2015 season Sunday at the NCAA Championships event finals competition, where junior Hollie Blanske represented NU on floor to finish in 11th place with a 9.85 score.

The individual event finals occurred in an alternating format beginning with the finalists on vault and bars. Beam and floor followed, closing out the 2015 championship competition.

Floor saw competition from 15 total competitors, the most of any event. Blanske was the eighth gymnast up on the floor to wrap up the first flight of competitors. The first-team floor All-American tumbled to a 9.85 with a minor low landing on the opening pass, good enough for 11th place on the event overall.

Florida’s Kytra Hunter dominated the field on floor and took the crown with a huge 9.9625. On vault, Stanford frosh standout Elizabeth Price took the title with a 9.9333, while Utah’s Georgia Dabritz snagged the bars title with a 9.9625. UCLA’s Sam Peszek closed out her collegiate career with the beam crown, tallying a 9.95.

On Friday, Hunter and Peszek tied for the all-around national title with matching 39.600 marks. Husker senior Jessie DeZiel was honored on the podium for her sixth-place all-around finish with a 39.425. At last night’s Super Six team finals, Florida won its third straight team title in a row, beating out runner-up Utah 197.850-197.800. Oklahoma took third with a 197.525.
