Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska women’s tennis team (12-10, 0-9 Big Ten) honored senior Izabella Zgierska in the final home-match of the season today at the Vine Street Courts where the 18th-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes (17-4, 9-0 Big Ten) tallied a 7-0 win over the Huskers.
Nebraska started the day strong with a win at the No. 2 doubles spot as Maggy Lehmicke and Lisa Andersson defeated Ohio State’s Sneed and Kowase, 8-4. The Husker duo improved to 13-4 overall, going 8-1 in Big Ten play.
The Buckeyes bounced back with a win at the No. 1 spot as the 40th-ranked duo of De Santis and Niehaus outscored Izabella Zgierska and Mary Hanna, 8-5. NU’s duo is now 14-5 overall with a 4-5 Big Ten mark.
The decision came down to Mackenna Maddox and Katerina Matysova at the No. 3 spot where the pair battled back from a 0-5 deficit early in the match to an 8-6 loss to O’Neill and Flower, earning Ohio State the doubles point.
With the 1-0 advantage, Ohio State went on to grab six singles wins en route to the 7-0 victory.
NU will hit the road for Urbana, Ill. to take on Big Ten opponent, Illinois on Saturday, April 18th at 12 p.m., followed by a dual with Northwestern in Evanston, Ill. on Sunday, April 19th at 11 a.m. Results can be found here on Huskers.com following each match.
