Lottman Claims Spot in NCAA Event Finals

Norman, Okla.--The Nebraska men’s gymnastics team saw competition from six individual competitors on night two of the NCAA Championships at the Lloyd Noble Center Friday evening, where junior Ethan Lottman qualified as NU’s sole individual to the event finals on pommel horse tomorrow night (April 11).

To begin the evening, junior Sam Chamberlain was the first parallel bars gymnast to step up to the plate for the night. He delivered a gorgeous set throughout, but was forced to put down his hand behind him on the dismount to garner a 14.35 score.

Gollott began his first NCAA all-around finals campaign on rings, notching a career best 13.40 complete with a stuck landing. Gollott also moved to the vault in the second rotation to earn a 14.30 for his double front. Freshman Kyle King made his sole debut on vault in the NCAA semifinals, floating a high two and a half twist with just a small hop. He grabbed a 14.80 for his effort.

Senior Louis Klein made his way to the high bar in the third rotation, putting forth a seamless performance to tally a 14.80. The Utica, Mich., native finished his Husker career tied for 11th place, just shy of earning a berth into the finals. Gollott traveled to parallel bars for his third event of the night, improving from his first day performance to post a 14.05.

Three Huskers saw action in the fourth rotation in the event semifinals. Sophomore Chris Stephenson made his first ever appearance in the NCAA semifinals on floor, tumbling to a solid 15.05. Junior Ethan Lottman was first up on pommel horse and performed his way to a 14.85 mark. Continuing his all-around campaign, Gollott went to high bar and recorded a career best 14.10, his second of the night.

Gollott remained the final Husker to compete in the last two rotations of the evening, traveling to floor for the fifth. The Livermore, Calif., native picked up his third career high of the night by tumbling to a huge 15.30. After five rotations, Gollott sat in 12th place in the all-around.

Gollott closed out his record-breaking day in style, closing out the meet on pommel horse to notch a 13.55. The sophomore shattered his previous career best all-around, tabbing an 84.700 mark and finishing in 14th place overall.

Lottman finished the evening tied for seventh overall on pommel horse, claiming his spot into the individual event finals. The top eight performers in tomorrow night’s finals will earn All-America honors, as Lottman seeks to become NU’s first All-American on an individual event since Chamberlain (pommel horse) and Grant Perdue (floor and vault) in 2013. Meet action will begin at 7 p.m. CT and can be seen live at ncaa.com.
